戏剧文体学是一门正在发展的学科,目前面临两个问题。第一个问题与研究方法有关:已有的文体分析框架往往混淆语用学与话语分析的区别,把两者都看作分析工具。第二个问题与研究对象有关:多数文体分析者对于舞台指令,要么视而不见,要么排斥在外,认为不值得研究(见第二章)。对于第一个问题,即研究方法的问题,本书作者李华东把语用作为一个视角和语用作为一个工具包有机地结合起来,同时应用于分析过程之中;对于第二个问题,即研究对象的问题,李华东选择了戏剧文本研究中备受冷落的舞台指令作为分析的中心,他的理由很充分,因为戏剧不是写来给人读的(当然可以读),戏剧是写来在舞台上表演给人看的。因此舞台指令在戏剧文本中、在舞台人物的形象塑造中有着不可忽视的作用。
